Asus VivoBook E200HA Review

The Asus VivoBook E200HA is an affordable and compact laptop, primarily designed for basic tasks such as web browsing, document editing, and light media consumption. Here’s a detailed review:

  • Windows 10 Operating System
  • Intel Atom x5-Z8300 quad-core processor at 1.44 GHz.
  • 2 GB of DDR3 RAM
  • 32 GB of eMMC SSD memory
  • 2x USB ports, one being 3.0
  • One 2.0 Micro HDMI Out
  • Micro-SD – SDXC
  • 802.11ac 2×2 WiFi
  • Bluetooth 4.1
  • Integrated HD Webcam also with Microphone
  • Release Date: May 2017
  • Target Price: Around £200 (UK)

Firstly, the Asus VivoBook E200HA is undoubtedly a cheap and cheerful laptop. The E200HA weighs less than a kilogram and is also 11.6 inches. Together with a good battery life and cheap price, this small-form laptop is decent entry-level computing. However, don’t expect miracles from it years down the line. Indeed, PC and laptop technology changes for the better every six months!

In effect, the E200HA is a replacement for the ageing X205TA.

The VivoBook E200HA features a sleek and lightweight design, making it highly portable. Weighing just under 1 kg (2.2 lbs), it’s easy to carry around, making it ideal for students or professionals on the go. The plastic chassis is well-built for its price range, although it does feel a bit fragile compared to more premium laptops.

It sports an 11.6-inch display with a resolution of 1366×768 pixels. While not full HD, the screen is decent for basic tasks. The colours are somewhat muted, and viewing angles aren’t great due to the use of a TN panel, but for budget users who don’t require top-notch display quality, it gets the job done.

The laptop is powered by an Intel Atom x5-Z8350 processor, paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of eMMC storage. This hardware is only suitable for lightweight tasks like browsing, streaming, or working on documents. Performance can be sluggish when multitasking or handling heavier applications due to the low RAM and storage.

One of the highlights of the VivoBook E200HA is its impressive battery life. Asus claims up to 13 hours on a single charge, and in real-world usage, it delivers close to that under moderate workloads. This makes it an excellent option for users who need all-day battery life without needing to constantly recharge.

The 32GB of eMMC storage is very limited, especially considering that a portion of it is taken up by the operating system. Thankfully, the laptop comes with a microSD card slot for storage expansion, but the built-in storage can be a bottleneck if you’re planning to install many apps or store a lot of files.

For a budget laptop, it offers decent connectivity options. It includes two USB 3.0 ports, one micro HDMI port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, which covers basic connectivity needs. Wi-Fi performance is stable with support for 802.11ac, and Bluetooth 4.1 is also included.

The keyboard is surprisingly comfortable to type on for a small laptop, with decent key travel and a layout that feels natural. The trackpad is responsive, though sometimes it can feel a bit cramped due to the laptop’s small size.

The VivoBook E200HA comes with Windows 10 pre-installed. Given the limited hardware, the performance is acceptable, but you may need to run Windows in its streamlined mode (S-mode) for smoother operation. This version of Windows is lighter and designed for basic use.

  • Lightweight and portable
  • Excellent battery life for all-day use
  • Affordable price
  • Decent keyboard and trackpad
  • Expandable storage via microSD
  • Limited performance due to 2GB RAM and Atom processor
  • Small 32GB storage that fills up quickly
  • Display quality is basic with limited viewing angles
  • Not suitable for multitasking or heavy applications

At 286 x 193mm, this small laptop is well worth splashing out for all sorts of purposes, too. From the business professional to the kids bedroom, this machine is equally suitable. Although the keyboard is a tad compact, the keys are generally responsive. However, with such a basic machine, the webcam is basic in it’s performance. With the frame rate being a little slow, video is also a little sloppy. But it does compare to most others in this price range.

The Asus VivoBook E200HA is a great choice if you’re looking for an ultra-portable and budget-friendly laptop for basic tasks. Its excellent battery life and lightweight design make it ideal for students or those needing a secondary device for simple tasks like web browsing and word processing. However, its limited performance and storage make it unsuitable for more demanding tasks.
