DJI Mavic Pro Drone Review From Oracle.

DJI Mavic Pro Drone Review

The DJI Mavic Pro is widely regarded as a landmark in consumer drone technology, offering a combination of portability, professional-grade features, and ease of use. Here’s a breakdown of its key aspects:

  • DJI Mavic craft
  • Remote control
  • Battery charger
  • Power cable
  • Instructions
  • 2 x bags with two sets of blades
  • USB cable to micro USB
  • Lightning connector
  • Type C connector
  • 16GB SD card (installed).

The Mavic Pro’s standout feature is its compact, foldable design. When folded, it’s about the size of a water bottle, making it incredibly easy to carry. This was a major leap forward compared to larger drones like DJI’s Phantom series. It’s also perfect for travellers and outdoor enthusiasts who want a portable, high-performance drone without lugging around bulky gear.

The Mavic Pro features a 12MP camera capable of shooting 4K video at 30fps and 1080p at 96fps for smooth slow-motion footage. Indeed, the image quality is sharp and clear, with good colour reproduction. Its 3-axis gimbal stabilization ensures stable shots, even in windy conditions. However, while excellent for most users, it may not satisfy professional cinematographers who require higher-end cameras and larger sensors.

One of the Mavic Pro’s most impressive features is its flight range and control. With DJI’s OcuSync transmission technology, it can fly up to 7 km (4.3 miles) away, maintaining a strong video feed with minimal interference. Furthermore, its top speed of 40 mph (65 km/h) in sport mode is thrilling for those who enjoy fast-paced flights.

The drone is equipped with GPS, GLONASS, and various sensors, ensuring precise positioning and safety. The obstacle avoidance system helps prevent crashes by detecting objects in front of the drone. However, it lacks side and rear sensors, which have become more common in newer drones.

The Mavic Pro offers a solid flight time of around 25-27 minutes on a single charge, depending on flying conditions. This is decent, though not exceptional, but having spare batteries can extend your flight sessions.

DJI’s user-friendly app and the drone’s intelligent flight modes (such as TapFly, ActiveTrack, and Gesture Mode) make it easy for both beginners and experienced pilots to capture professional-looking shots. TapFly allows you to tap a location on the screen, and the Mavic will automatically fly there, while ActiveTrack can follow a subject autonomously, keeping it in the frame.

What we also love about the DJI Mavic Pro Drone, apart from it’s pure fun, is the remote control. Just like the drone itself, the remote control is correspondingly compact. In addition to its nice design, you can add your smart phone to it for better functionality. This, of course, allows you to see the video from the drone whilst in operation. The Oracle Review people just loved this feature too.

The controller is compact, with a built-in phone mount, allowing users to view a live feed from the drone’s camera. It provides tactile controls and is responsive, giving pilots a strong sense of control during flight.

  • Compact, foldable design for easy portability
  • Excellent 4K camera with good stabilization
  • Long control range and strong signal
  • Decent battery life for its size
  • Intelligent flight modes simplify complex shots
  • GPS and obstacle avoidance for safer flights
  • No side or rear obstacle sensors
  • Camera not as advanced as newer models (e.g., Mavic 2 Pro)
  • A bit expensive, especially compared to newer alternatives (don’t pay more than £1,000 in the UK)
  • Propeller noise is quite noticeable at close range

The DJI Mavic Pro set the standard for portable drones with excellent flight performance, intelligent features, and strong build quality. While newer models like the Mavic Air 2 or Mavic 3 offer more advanced specs, the Mavic Pro remains a solid choice for casual drone enthusiasts and hobbyist filmmakers who value portability without sacrificing key features.

Overall, it’s still a fantastic drone for most users, despite being released in 2017 (for around £1000 (UK target price)). If you can find it at a good price, it offers excellent value for money. This drone is brilliant in its design and performance, as you would expect from this manufacturer, of course. So much so that we highly recommend it.
