The dimensions for the Garmin Dash Cam 55 are: 56.2mm wide x 35.3mm deep x 40.5mm high. Indeed, this little wonder weighs only 59.5g and has a 2 inch screen and it has good looks.

This model records in full HD adjustable up to to 1440p and offers up to 2560 x 1440 pixels at 30 frames per second. This is pretty impressive to say the least. It records a pre-installed 8GB module which will last for just under one hour before it starts to loop over the recorded data. The Garmin Dash Cam 55 will take higher capacity microSD cards.

You can even take still pictures as it can act as a 3.7 megapixels camera which will record time-lapse video. In case you are involved in a incident on the road, you can save the recent footage, then continue recording. But this happens automatically should you have a crash of some sort.

There is WiFi built in complete with GPS and you can control the device with your voice or a smart phone. You can control the audio recording facility through the menu. However, be aware that it sometimes may take pictures randomly due to having your car radio on. You can switch off the voice controls as it will start recording once the car engine starts.

The system will warn you if you are getting too close to the car in front which is a neat addition.

Operation

To install on your car, attach the small sticky magnetic patch to the windscreen.

Then connect the unit to the sticky magnetic patch, its as simple as that. Connect the car charger and you are good to go.

The unit records your position, speed, date and time. So, please remember that if you do speed and are involved in an incident, you may have an issue with your insurance company and the police.

The Garmin Dash Cam 55 is not cheap, although we could find some of these units for as low as £95. However, it has so many features it is well worth it.

The video quality is great during daylight hours and works really well at night. So, you can buy cheaper units, but you may not get the results you expect. Think of this Garmin Dash Cam as an investment.

You really need to think of this unit as an investment due to its cost. However, if you are a safe driver and want to protect yourself in any insurance claim situation, this model is just that. Indeed, your insurance claim process will be made all that easier and this unit works well at night! This model is a winner.
