CR112DABV Clock Radio: Oracle Review.

Tesco CR112DABV Clock Radio Review

The Tesco CR112DABV Clock Radio is a budget-friendly device, popular for offering essential features at an affordable price point. Here’s a breakdown of its pros and cons:

Target Price: £29.99 (UK).

This unit operates from the mains electricity, but can also take 6 x AA batteries. This allows you to take it with you and use it as a portable radio or alarm clock when camping, etc.

The alarm clock functions just like it should, and the radio does too, although the radio is a little tinny. This is because of the small speakers, but there is a headphones socket for private listening. Of course, this also makes the sound much better if you have quality headphones.

There are 10 presets, which is ample, and it also has a handy snooze button.

Tesco CR112DABV Clock Radio Review.
  1. Affordable Price: One of its key attractions is the low cost, making it a good choice for basic bedside use.
  2. DAB and FM Radio: The inclusion of both Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) and traditional FM radio allows users to enjoy a wider range of radio stations with clearer sound quality on DAB.
  3. Compact Design: Its small, minimalist design is suitable for bedside tables or small spaces. The black plastic casing is simple and functional.
  4. Alarm Functions: The clock radio comes with an alarm feature, with options to wake up either to the radio or a buzzer.
  5. Simplicity: It’s easy to use, making it ideal for those who want a no-fuss clock radio without complicated functions.
  1. Basic Display: The LED display is functional but quite basic. Some users report that it lacks adjustability in brightness, which could be disruptive in a dark room.
  2. Sound Quality: As expected for a budget radio, the sound quality is average. It works well for radio listening but doesn’t deliver deep bass or high-definition sound, which could disappoint users seeking richer audio performance.
  3. Limited Features: Unlike more expensive models, the Tesco CR112DABV doesn’t include advanced features like Bluetooth connectivity, USB charging, or multiple alarm settings.
  4. Durability: Some users have noted that the build quality feels a bit flimsy, but this is typical of low-cost electronics.

The Tesco CR112DABV is a practical, low-cost clock radio ideal for those who prioritize simplicity and affordability over premium features and sound quality. It’s suitable for casual users who want basic DAB/FM radio functionality and a reliable alarm. However, if you’re after more modern features or higher sound quality, you might need to look for a higher-end model.

To sum up this unit, we would have to say that it does exactly what it is intended to do. The only real negative things are the sound being a little tinny and that it has no DAB+.

  1. It can be fiddly. We found that you need to put the radio on first then do the following.

    1) With the radio on, press and hold the info/menu button for a few seconds. You will see a menu.
    2) Press the buttons on the left < or > to find “system” and press “enter”.
    3) Find the clock and alarm settings there.

You may find that nothing happens unless you actually have the radio on, ie listening to a station.
